The research group LIA2 (Applied Informatics Laboratory) has been working for several years in the field of image processing and pattern recognition. Projects carried out in these research lines include: automatic sorting of vine leaves, automatic classification of bee pollen, characterization of cod otoliths, recognition of bone shapes, automatic reading of instrument screens, processing of hyperspectral images for the detection of diseases in potatoes, analysis of histological images for the determination of reproductive parameters in fish, recognition of automatically written forms and extraction of characteristics of nanotubes by the processing of images of electron microscope.

Under the acronym DAEIRA, derived from the English Dynamic Applications for Expert Image Recognition and Analysis, the research group has proposed to unify the efforts made in these lines of research, giving it a uniform visibility to facilitate the transfer of results and collaborate with others entities such as researchers from the Center for Research in Information Technology (CITIUS) of the University of Santiago de Compostela, the Marine Research Institute (IIM) belonging to the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) in Vigo or other groups of research from the University of Vigo or the Center for Research, Transfer and Innovation (CITI).

This project is not only expected to address the needs of the LIA2 group, but also to automate the management functions to handle all this information.
